It used to be that a person attended the Kingdom Hall voluntarily and but were convinced to check their human rights and rights as a Citizen, at the door. Hopefully those days are little by little becoming a thing of the past.

Unforgivable sin?? Claiming to be directed by Gods Holy Spirit and misleading millions of people with misinformation about him and continuing to do so decade after decade even when time has proven you to be a fraud.

We're all a work in progress and we strive to do better, once we know better. The only ones who should be wracked by guilt are those who continue in the same course once they are aware they've gone wrong and those who refuse to acknowledge the effect they've had on others.
People throughout the world raise their children with their family or cultural ways and in the religion that they believe in and you were no different. It's what parents are supposed to do. I'm not saying that he doesn't have a legitimate complaint but you may have raised your son as a Lutheran or Presbyterian and he'd have had a whole different set of things to attribute his troubles to and it would be no less or no more, your fault. Imagine what complaints a kid who was raised as a Christian Scientist may have when he or she leaves, especially if he was denied medical treatment and ended up with long term consequences.
It seems (as it is with many) dependance on a religion may have left him with a case of arrested development. When he left the religion in his 40's, he may have only had the emotional maturity of a much younger person. Being a JW who believed they would never grow old, made it easy for most all of us to plateau emotionally and not face up to lifes realities little by little as we grew up. Instead, we had to face these realities all at once. Many are never able to face this and stick with the religion long after they no longer believe. Both those who leave and those who choose to stay, sometimes turn alcohol to ease the utter pain this causes. The thing is, this could have happened with just about any religion depending on how deeply involved one became with it.
I'm guessing you didn't hold your parents responsible for the outcome of your life once you were an adult and didn't expect them to solve your problems and wouldn't even have wanted them to. It seems to me that all you can do is acknowledge your son's pain and let him know you are on his side.
Get some counseling yourself and see what a professional has to say about this situation. Maybe do a little research on "arrested development" and see what the treatment for it is. Typically it has to do with drug/alcohol addiction but it can be attributed to just about any activity that short circuits or hinders a persons emotional development. It may be helpful to become informed on Cults and the residual effects left on a person once they leave one and what it takes to deprogram them and free them of the guilt/fear they may still be carrying.
Growing up a JW definitely has an effect on a person but there are millions who've come through much worse and gone on to have happy lives. If you continue bearing the guilt, it may give him the idea that you are responsible for the outcome rather than him.

New Light on Sheep and Goats?
by notsurewheretogo inlloyd evans has just tweeted a video he will be releasing soon on the "change" to the meaning of the sheep and goats and when that is to occur.. i've missed any discussion on that on here or anywhere?
it seems it was part of the 2020 annual meeting the gb had?.

This change means that for all these decades, they haven't been preaching "the truth" in fact they've been spreading incorrect information throughout the world . Good thing Arma-giddy-boom didn't' come after all.

Can we stick to topics that we came that we came to this forum in the first place?
by James Jack ini don’t care about politics, books you are reading, movies and tv programs you’re watching, etc..

It's interesting to hear how others are doing and/or what they're thinking about or experiencing as members of regular society. As we all suspected, we are so much more than just former JW's and have more to talk about than criticism of our former religion.
If that's not enough, there's years of JW doctrinal discussions on record if you do a search.
You'd think AM3 would be running low on scotch by now and sneaking out of the compound.
Makes me wonder if Amazon delivers to Bethel and if so do they ship booze in a plain unmarked box?

Wife told me a tale about a letter writing experience and my BS meter was like "uhhh ya rightttttt"
by goingthruthemotions inso me and my pimi wife are driving today and normally we don't talk anything about her stupid cult.
because it will end up with me saying something and her getting p.o'ed.
well anyways i have been trying to just ignore the bs and keep my mouth shut.

The non JW said, " I just got a letter from a Jehovah witness and it was such a encouraging letter, in fact I keep it with me here in my purse and pulled out the letter.
(LOL ya righttt)
The JW said, " I write letters, is there a name on the letter?"
the NON JW: " yes the name is ******."The JW said: Thats my name, I wrote that letter.
Non JW said: Thank you for confirming your name. I'm a Subpoena server and I've been following you. You're being served for using the U.S Postal Service to harass private citizens and solicit Cult membership.

Are faders like me just cowards? Should I show my face?
by Witness 007 ini feel bad i just faded away and did not "come out" as an apostate hater.
my mum died refusing blood and still i hang back my wife still has witness friends and goes to the memorial every year..

There is no good way to leave the JW's and that's how you know it's a Cult or at the very least, Cult-like.
Fading isn't cowardly, it takes just as much courage to face the fears JW's have imposed on you but doing so takes away or at least limits their power over you and the havoc they can wreak on you life.
Fading takes strength in the form of "self control" because you don't get to have your say...no immediate gratification because you don't get to blow everyone who has deceived you, out of the water the way you'd probably like to. You don't get to share what you've learned, with your friends and loved ones. Instead, you have the difficult task of keeping things to yourself...biding your time for the sake of damage control.
I lost both my Father who was studying with JW's and my Elder Father in Law (48) because of the JW lies regarding blood transfusion. I faded and rather than tell everyone I know about what happened, I've bided my time and have been able to make a bigger impact by subtly pointing my family and loved ones to information that has opened their eyes without causing them to run in the opposite direction.

the GB has just cancelled the next two years
by neat blue dog ineven some democrats are advocating for reopening society, and are at least hoping for some point in 2021, but the governing body just announced that they're canceling the assemblies in 2022 as well, aiming to restart in 2023. .
they're really milking this 'pandemic', because as soon as things go back to normal that sense of urgency will start to die again, and publisher counts / meeting attendance will go down as well.
i wonder how many jws are suffering form (additional) depression from this as well, because with meetings, assemblies and conventions at least you could see and meet new people, as well as socialize.

the Governing Body just announced that they're canceling the assemblies in 2022 as well, aiming to restart in 2023.
Whoo hoo....what a relief it must be for those in charge...they have an almost 2 year break from having to come up with material and organizing assemblies.
I wonder how many JWs are suffering form (additional) depression from this as well, because with meetings, assemblies and conventions at least you could see and meet new people, as well as socialize.
I'm guessing any additional depression that may be caused by isolation might be offset by the absence of anxiety caused by the weekly doom and gloom sessions which are part and parcel of the end times cult they belong to. I'm sure the impact the meetings may normally have on individuals, has been lessened by viewing them via zoom.
Much of the civilized world is on hold, but perhaps JWs even more so, as they can't turn to 'worldly' people for companionship and their already small community is now even smaller.
I live in the epicenter of Covid and most of the Churches around here have been meeting in big Marquee tents set up in their parking lots, ever since this whole mess started. They know the value of in person association and that meeting online doesn't have the same impact. They prove how much they trust that "god's Holy Spirit" will keep them safe. (Not saying they should) but JW's don't put their faith to the test as much as they claim to.

Zoom meetings
by molybdenum inbeing pimo i attend the meetings regularly over zoom.
( i have to as my wife is a dyed -in - the wool, and stick-in-the mud pioneer witness.
i have no possibility of leaving as it would create havoc in my life and at 68 years of age i just don't want the hassle of having to cope with the ramifications of disassociating myself.

A JW family member showed me a video of and elderly Sister who was listening to a Zoom meeting and she walked by the camera in a nightgown and slurping on a glass of red wine.
I said "That must be why they call her Sister Weinstien" LOL!

The Trolley Problem
by Simon inso you've probably heard of the ethical dilemma question which is a thought-experiment where you imagine there is a runaway train-trolley, a junction with a lever that you can pull and two tracks - one with 5 workers on it and another with just 1, but no way to warn them.. all you can do is pull the lever, or not, thus allowing 5 people to die or through your direct action sacrificing 1 to save them.. what should you do?.
this sort of thing may seem silly but it comes up in real life.
should a self-driving car for instance, faced with a certain collision, chose which pedestrians to run over?
-
Pete Zahut
This reminds me of the JW "trolley" illustration that was meant to show God's mercy in sacrificing his son Jesus for mankind?
A bridge has collapsed and a train full of people (cursed mankind) is heading toward it. The railroad switch operator (God) can throw the switch and send the train down another set of tracks and save all the passengers but he knows that his son (Jesus) brings him his lunch every day and is walking on those tracks at that very moment. What should he do?
The solution of course is that since he's Almighty God, he could easily stop the train or miraculously fix the bridge but once again the JW's created a false narrative and weren't comparing apples to apples. The switch operator in this scenario wasn't the one who collapsed the bridge the way god cursed mankind and unlike the little boy, Jesus was aware of what was taking place.
